On Friday 22 August, we had the pleasure of welcoming our Tuckwell Alumni back to campus for the fourth annual Alumni Reception -an event that brings together past Scholars, the Head of Scholars House, Program Director, Fellows and staff, as well as Scholars in their final semester, preparing to graduate.
Held once again in the ANU School of Art & Design gallery, the evening unfolded alongside the Backbone exhibition, a compelling showcase of work by the School’s technical staff.
This gathering continues to celebrate the strength and growth of our Tuckwell Alumni community. It also offers final-year Scholars a chance to build connections, as they prepare to step into life beyond university.
A heartfelt thank you to ceramic artist Mahala Hill, who spoke about her fascinating work featured in the exhibition. Based just outside Canberra in regional NSW, Mahala’s practice challenges traditional boundaries of ceramics.
Her process is driven by material exploration, sparking new ideas and deepening conceptual inquiry.
The evening was made even more memorable by the debut performance of our newly formed Tuckwell band.
A big thank you to Inez Crosby (2025), Hannah Wang (2024), Bartholomew Cheng (2025), and Sydney Bao (2024) for providing a beautiful musical backdrop— Your ensemble brought elegance, emotion, and a harmony of sound that perfectly complemented the night.
Thank you to all Alumni and Scholars that attended, we’re excited about future opportunities to reconnect with each of you and will continue following your journeys beyond ANU.
