On Thursday September 4, Guy Leckenby visited Scholars House - a short break from the University of Bordeaux, where he is a Postdoc in nuclear astrophysics.
Guy joined the Tuckwell Scholarship Program in its very first year, 2014, graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours)(Science) with First Class Honours in Physics.
In Scholars House, Guy was presented with his engraved Tuckwell Alumni pin and will also be presenting a paper "Surrogate reactions in the Experimental Storage Ring" at the 9th Heavy Ion Accelerator Symposium, which will be held on campus this week.
During his visit, Guy met with current Scholars to share insights from his remarkable journey since graduating and leaving Australia eight years ago. His research has garnered international recognition, including a publication in Nature last year:

Guy was also recently awarded the GSI Exotic Nuclei Community (GENCO) Young Scientist Award 2025 for “the precise determination of the bound-state beta decay half-life of fully-ionized 205Tl and its application to standing open questions about element abundances in the solar system and the solar neutrino flux.”
