2022 Bell Ringer Announced

The Tuckwell Scholarship is pleased to announce that Kate Chipman (2022 Tuckwell Scholar) from NSW has been elected by her peers to the position of Bell Ringer for 2022.

The role is awarded to a Tuckwell Scholar from the most recent cohort who has consistently demonstrated the Tuckwell attributes and who best represents what it means to be a Tuckwell Scholar. The position title stems from the Tuckwell handbell used in the 'ringing in' ceremony at the annual Commencement Dinner. As Bell Ringer, Kate will play a lead role in the 2023 Commencement Weekend festivities.

Kate attended Hornsby Girls’ High School in Sydney and is currently studying a PhB Humanities and Social Sciences program, majoring in History and minoring in Advanced French Studies.

Alongside her studies at ANU, Kate spends her time in the swimming community, racing with the Woden Sharks. Kate has volunteered at the World Swimming Championships in Melbourne and at her residence at Fenner Hall. Kate is part of the ANU Swimming and Water Polo Clubs and competed in the University Nationals in 2022.

When reflecting on what Tuckwell means to her, Kate says she most values the connections and motivation the community provides, “you are constantly surrounded by such passionate individuals. From my peers to the academics that I have been lucky to learn from, hearing what makes other people tick is a constant source of motivation.”

Kate hopes to be a strong representative for the program in 2023, “I hope that I can make my cohort proud! I am so grateful for the opportunity to give back to the Tuckwell community”.
