Max Kirkby (2019) awarded a 2023 Rhodes Scholarship for Australia-at-Large
"We’re proud of Max. He’s been a strong contributor to the ANU and Tuckwell communities, a terrific presence around Scholars House, and we’re sure he’ll do great things at Oxford on the Rhodes.”
Congratulations to Max Kirkby (2019) for being awarded a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. Max has just completed his honours in immunology at ANU and will now attend Oxford University in 2023. At Oxford, he intends to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Neurosciences with a focus on understanding information processing in neurodegenerative diseases.
Each year, nine Rhodes Scholarships are available for outstanding Australians to study at the University of Oxford. One scholarship is offered in each of the states (NSW, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania), and three for Australia at large. For further information about the Rhodes Trust, visit the Rhodes House website.
Max becomes the fourth Tuckwell Scholar to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in the past four years, and will join Madeleine McGregor (2016 Tuckwell Scholar, 2022 Rhodes Scholar), Marcus Dahl (2014 Tuckwell Scholar, 2020 Rhodes Scholar) and Lachlan Arthur (2015 Tuckwell Scholar, 2021 Rhodes Scholar) as well as a growing community of other Tuckwells who have continued their studies at the University of Oxford.
Head of Scholars House Associate Professor Ryan Goss, a Rhodes Scholar and Oxford graduate himself, reflected on Max’s achievements, "We’re proud of Max. He’s been a strong contributor to the ANU and Tuckwell communities, a terrific presence around Scholars House, and we’re sure he’ll do great things at Oxford on the Rhodes.”
