Shaped and developed by his home town of Fairlight, a suburb in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Finlay’s upbringing in a tight-knit community has given him particular talents in creating and building networks, leading others and giving back.

During Finlay’s time at ANU, he was elected the role of President for the Interhall Sports Organisation and as a sports representative for Bruce Hall. Leading through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, he further developed his leadership skills, guiding his groups through challenging times and adapting to unknown challenges. Finlay has also devoted much of his time volunteering for the not-for-profit group, The Reach Foundation, which promotes the use of effective mental health strategies for teenagers and young adults.

Finlay’s professional experience has been in education, finance and analytics. Beginning in a sell-side trading internship with Deutsche Bank, he then moved to an analyst for AIC mining and as a weekend trader for the fund Ark International Group. At ANU, Finlay was employed as a tutor for FINM2002 - Derivatives and STAT1008 and was contracted to crate educational content at Atomi Education. Graduating in 2022, Finlay is currently employed at a Sydney-based hedge fund as a derivatives trader.

Since beginning his Tuckwell journey in 2019, Finlay says he has most enjoyed the conversations he had during his time at ANU. Finlay is a people-centred individual who is genuine, consistent and open. He credits ANU for giving him a greater appreciation for the value of connections and community and hopes to take these values forward with him into his future endeavours.
