Welcome to our 2025 Tuckwell Scholars

10 February 2025

We have now welcomed our 2025 cohort to Scholars House!

Scholars arrived on campus last week and enjoyed a full day of orientation where they met with the Tuckwell team and other current Scholars. Orientation was followed by a 2-day camp in Tharwa at Outward Bound, on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at the foot of Mt Tennent, on the traditional lands of the Ngunnawal people. Tharwa is the Ngunnawal word for Mt Tennent.

Scholars soaked up the Canberra summer, with activities such as raft building, a high ropes course, adventure races as well as trivia, freshly baked scones, chats and games.

Camp guides emphasised the value of building connections with those around us, which builds resilience and community and a general sense of belonging.

On the second day of camp, the whole group enjoyed a tree planting activity – an activity designed to encourage participants to think of others and consider the value of contributing to the community and sustaining our natural environment.

These annual Tuckwell Scholarship Program events provided a wonderful opportunity for our newest cohort members to get to know one another better as well as interact with other Scholar cohorts.

We look forward to a wonderful year ahead, and the countdown to commencement begins!
