We recently hosted our first‑ever All Scholars Welcome, bringing together all current Scholars for connection and celebration at Scholars House. 2022 Scholars, Gypsy Polacheck, Lola Archibald and Alex Bako, delivered the Acknowledgment of Country. Scholars heard all about what to expect in the year ahead from Program Director Lois Carlton, followed by a heartfelt farewell message from outgoing Head of Scholars House, Associate Professor Michelle Barrett, who was thanked by Bartholomew Cheng (2025) on behalf of the Tuckwell community. Michelle also announced the Programs new Head of Scholars House, Dr Iain Henry. As a former Tuckwell Fellow, Iain returns to the program bringing knowledge and experience and we look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Scholars were delighted to watch a heartwarming video message from Graham and Louise Tuckwell and also heard from senior Scholars recently returned from overseas exchange: Matt Clarke (2023), Stephie Ovington (2024), Luke McNamara (2023), Caitlyn Martin (2023) and Rosie Sewell (2023). The Tuckwell Scholarship Programs 300th Scholar, Sydney Richter (2026) received a special mention at the event and was presented with a symbolic golden bell to mark this special milestone.
Tuckwell Alumni Tamara Bohler (2015) and Ellie Randall (2019) generously gave their time and shared their personal reflections, offering wise advice to all current Scholars. Thank you, Tamara and Ellie — your words will surely resonate with, reassure and inspire Scholars across our community. The day wrapped up with a relaxed barbecue lunch and ice‑cream on the Scholars House balcony overlooking a sunny clearing perfect for a picnic‑style gathering, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
