Meet Sebastian. Growing up in Cygnet, Tasmania, Sebastian was encouraged to apply for the Tuckwell Scholarship by his Assistant Principal.

“I was really helped in applying because I had a good relationship with one of the assistant principals at my school, she'd been my math teacher the previous year. She helped me out a lot with a lot of the more school side of things.”

What would you tell others from regional Tasmania about the Tuckwell Scholarship Program?

“I would tell people who are applying from around Cygnet that it's okay to study come and study at university and it's a great thing to aspire to. Find that thing that makes you interesting. It makes you you. Make sure that you tell people about that because that's the most important thing. That's what they care about with the Tuckwell Scholarship.”

Who is Tuckwell Scholarship Program targeted towards?

“Tuckwell Scholarship is looking for people who are quite good academically, but honestly they want, they want characters. They want people who can talk, who care about things and care about them deeply enough that they want to make a change and make a difference to Australia or their community or just enough. They want to make a difference to the scientific community, just the people around them.”
