Tuckwell Scholars recently strengthened their bonds at Outward Bound in Tharwa, located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at the foot of Mt Tennent, “Tharwa” is the Ngunnawal word for Mt Tennent.
The 2026 and 2025 cohorts were joined by third year Tuckwell Scholars who volunteered as camp leaders to share their wisdom and guidance through a mix of outdoor challenges and reflective indoor activities, helping build connections across cohorts.
In small groups, Scholars conquered the giant ladder, raft building, and the ever‑popular “disarm the device” task, as well as the infamous bread‑eating challenge.
Indoors, they enjoyed letter writing and group discussions, and began the second morning with a refreshing hike, expertly led by 2022 Alumna and now part-time Tuckwell team member, Abby Kidston.
Delicious scones, freshly baked by Tuckwell staff in the Possum Kitchen made a welcome return and the group particularly loved coming together for a meaningful tree‑planting activity, pictured above.
It was two days filled with fun, challenges, and plenty of laughter, offering the perfect transition from orientation into the year ahead.
Wonderful days spent in nature before we turn our focus to Commencement.
